County Dublin VEC Youth & Sports Development Service hosted a Cricket Taster Workshop Catering for 19 young people from the Tallaght area as part of Summer Project Activity Days in Killinarden Community School Sports Complex on Monday 20th July.
11 young people from St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre Summer Project in Kilnamanagh and 8 young people from Jobstown 6-12 Summer Project participated in the workshop. The coaching was planned and delivered by Brian O’ Rourke and his assistant Ryan Hopkins from the Leinster Cricket Union. All participants were taught the basics of the game. Even thought most participants were new to the sport, you could see clear improvements as they got more comfortable with the fundamentals of the game. All involved really seemed to be enjoying themselves including the coaches. A notable highlight of the workshop was the presence of Irish Cricket Team member Trent Johnston who dropped by to lend a hand with the coaching. We at County Dublin VEC would like to thank Brian and his coaching team for a very enjoyable morning.
The aim of workshops like this is to offer young people a taste of a sport that’s new to them. If even just one of the participants from the Summer Projects develops an interest in Cricket and pursues playing the game then that would be an added bonus.
