This year's 2009 kwik cricket festivals again saw an increase in school numbers competing for local honours, with festivals held in Strabane, Eglinton, Limavady, North Fermanagh, and Coleraine. With over 50 kwik cricket teams entering throughout the North West made for stiff competition to make it to the finals day held on 18th July 2009.

The first of these tournaments saw Newbuildings top their table fighting off a strong Eglinton side to be crowned champions in the L' Derry section.

The following tournament held in Limavady saw Ballykelly qualify by marginally defeating the new kids on the block Termon Canice in a tightly fought match up.

Some interesting results followed in other tournaments like Strabane where Artigarvan drew with St Mary's boys (who like Barrack Street 'borrowed' 2 girls from St Anne's PS to meet team ratio regulations) to share the competition and in Fermanagh Killen saw off pressure from Kesh and Irvinstown to lift the Kwik cricket cup which has lay dorment for the past 12 years.

Irish Society Primary School are this years Asda Coleraine Kwik Cricket champions. The competition played at Coleraine Cricket Club under perfect conditions proved a big hit with the six schools that entered with 70 boys and girls taking part.Following the qualifying games Millburn and Irish Society contested an exciting final with the winning margin being just 2 runs.

A special thanks must go to the clubs who hosted each event and to the Local Councils of Strabane and Limavady for their support and finally to ASDA who provided much needed refreshments, helping to make these events a huge success.
