‘Find a Fast Bowler’ award goes to North County player

Merrion overseas professional Matthew Petrie selected Andrew Sheridan as this year’s winner of the ‘Find a Fast Bowler’ award when conducting several bowling clinics with the province’s most promising quick bowlers.

Petrie, who plays his cricket with Queensland in Australia has again been on hand to provide assistance to young Leinster bowlers of various age-groups.

Working with over 20 bowlers through the summer, Petrie was impressed by the talent shown by Sheridan. "Andrew is a very keen bowler and attended several of our Fast Bowling clinics held during July. For a bowler so young he has very good control and possesses excellent balance and rhythm on approach to the crease. We suggested several slight adjustments to his grip and release position and we observed immediate results. I will be monitoring Andrew's progress with interest and I have no doubt he will progress into a fine seam/fast bowler in the coming years."

Andrew, from Stramullen in Co Meath, was selected to play for the Leinster U’11’s this year following many impressive performances for North County in the Leinster league. Only several weeks ago he spearheaded the North County bowling attack in their All Ireland U’11’s final against Donemana.
