YMCA won the toss on a strange looking Cabra wicket and elected to bat. It played very inconsistently throughout and YM were indebted to two watchful knocks from Alan Lewis (56) and Ben Dunk (52), who had a partnership of 112 for the 3rd wicket, for the basis of a final total of 220 allout. Rumour has it that Lewi, in the early hours of the morning after a quantity of the black nectar, struck a spread bet of 28-33 and could see the dollar signs ring up with every run over 33!! Rob Nandi (20no) and Angus Dunlop (18) chipped in while S Raza (3-34), S.Dutt (2-47) and Yogesh (2-31) were the pick of the Belvo bowlers in an undisciplined bowling display.
Old Belvedere lost 2 quick wickets at the start of their innings and were indebted to a wonderful display of batting by Yogesh (87 inc 3x6 & 9x4) for making them competitive. S. Dutt (25) was the only other batter to reach double figures as they were all out for 149 in the 32nd over. Yogesh was out to a stunning boundary catch by Jonny Harte although there were mutterings of AB de V at the YM fines session after the game!
After 10 years of Senior Cricket the YM skipper, Warwick Armstrong, had never had a Michele but he surpassed himself by with a Birmingham 6-18 by virtue of the old Cabra maxim - bowl straight, you miss, it certainly ain't going over the top so 'on your bike'!! Mind you, despite scoring 5 runs to the total shock of his team mates, he still has more senior wickets than runs!!
